The KVB and The Rocky Horror Picture Show on the First Weekend at the Castle Night

Saturday Night at Bánffy Castle: The KVB Concert and a Midnight Dive into Cult Cinema with The Rocky Horror Picture Show

On Saturday evening, starting at 7:30 PM, the stage at Bánffy Castle will be taken over by the British post-punk duo The KVB. Composed of Nicholas Wood and Kat Day, the band merges classic alternative rock with contemporary darkwave and electronic influences. Their signature sound fuses analog synths, dark guitar riffs, and a hypnotic, dream-pop psychedelia. Known for their intense audiovisual performances, The KVB’s live shows are as much a visual journey as they are a sonic one, immersing audiences in a spellbinding experience.

But the night doesn’t end with music. After the concert, the audience is invited to a special screening of The Rocky Horror Picture ShowJim Sharman’s 1975 cult masterpiece. Nearly 50 years after its premiere, the film continues to ignite audiences with its outrageous blend of camp, freedom of expression, and participatory fun.

When it first debuted, RHPS was widely rejected by both critics and mainstream audiences. Its themes — gender fluidity, bisexuality, and queer identity — were far ahead of their time. The film’s flamboyant, cross-dressing antihero, Dr. Frank-N-Furter, a “sweet transvestite from transsexual Transylvania,” challenged every social norm with unapologetic flair — corset, lipstick, stilettos and all.

Critics were ruthless:

  • “A forced attempt at parody that fails. More tiresome than shocking.”Monthly Film Bulletin

  • “Kitschy trash.”The New York Times

  • “A collection of mismatched pieces forming a failed whole.”Variety

And yet, what was once a flop has become a legend. Pulled from cinemas shortly after its release, RHPS returned triumphantly, becoming the very definition of a cult classic — the midnight movie that wouldn’t die. Its midnight screenings are now legendary: fans dress up, shout lines at the screen, dance in the aisles, and throw rice or spray water at iconic scenes. It’s messy, it’s loud, it’s liberating.

Tim Curry’s performance remains iconic — a role that’s as unforgettable to audiences as it was transformative for him. The film’s message? Don’t dream it, be it. That ethos remains just as potent today as it was in 1975.

Despite the decades that have passed — and the progress society has made — The Rocky Horror Picture Show still resonates. Perhaps that’s because some truths, especially when wrapped in glitter, fishnets, and a killer soundtrack, are timeless.

So, whether you're a seasoned Time Warper or a curious first-timer, Bonțida is the place to surrender to the madness. Join us for a night of pulsing sound and unabashed cinematic joy.
